The flowers of the night.

The Beauty of Noticing

Les Fleurs de la Nuit is French for “the flowers of the night.”

I choose to photograph primarily flowers because their beauty is almost universally recognized, yet so easily overlooked. We live in a world that constantly draws our attention elsewhere, often distracting us from the quiet beauty that surrounds us. Flowers remind me that so much of what makes life beautiful is already within our reach. Sometimes, we need only to look a little more closely, or in a different direction, to discover it.

Finding Light in Darkness

I believe there is something deeply hopeful in this act of noticing. Even in our darkest moments, beauty continues to exist around us, quietly waiting to be discovered. Learning to recognize it does not make life's difficulties disappear, but it can remind us that darkness is never all there is.

Through my photography, I seek to reveal this light within darkness, and to show how darkness itself can sometimes make beauty shine more brightly.

In this way, I see flowers as earthly stars, each a small expression of beauty capable of illuminating the darkness. And I think of stars as flowers of the night: luminous blossoms scattered across the vast darkness of the sky. Both remind me that even the deepest darkness need not be devoid of light or beauty.

It is this connection that inspired the star-filled world surrounding these pages.

Photography as Visual Poetry

I see each photograph as a visual poem. Color, form, texture, and mood become its language.

My editing is an essential part of this process. Over the years, I have become known for my distinctive editing style, through which I carefully shape light, color, and atmosphere to transform what the camera captures into what I envision.

Unlike written poetry, my images have no words. Yet, like poetry, they are composed to reach beyond what the eye can see and speak directly to the soul.

Where Images and Words Meet

This is also why I often accompany my photographs with poetry. I love discovering the symmetry between a photograph and a poem—how two different forms of expression can evoke the same feeling, illuminate one another, or reveal something neither could communicate quite as powerfully alone.

Pairing my work with the words of poets is also my way of celebrating their creativity and supporting the wider artistic community.

Ultimately, I hope my work encourages others to pause, to look more closely, and to rediscover the extraordinary beauty that so often hides within the ordinary.
